2012 in review

Okay so this is kinda cool, and now I suppose there are goals for this year and stuff. BTW, thanks everybody who kept checking in, especially during December and January which were hard months here at the table, more on that when it becomes possible to discuss all of it on the interweb. So check out the stats review and keep stopping by. Hope you have a great Valentine’s Day and I’ll be back soon! The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 3,500 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 6 years to get that many views.

My List of Mommy Must-Haves

Sitting in the cubicle farm this morning a few of us were chatting (in our typical manner, unrelated to work in anyway shape or form) . We were talking about how gifts change after you become a mom. Several of our co-workers are preggers/had a baby in the last month around here (I am currently avoiding even the bottled water in the fridge) and we started discussing how all of a sudden you start getting gifts for your birthday like a case of diapers (regardless of how long it’s been since your last accident I might add) or a coat in a size 5T for you to unwrap Christmas morning. It should be noted that having been a mom for quite awhile now, I have appreciated ALL useful things I have been given for my children, we were just joking about how after you have babies you are very not your own person anymore even down to sharing birthdays. I was thinking about what things I have been given (or purchased as a present to myself, say for Mother’s Day) that seem like completely horrible gifts yet these things are some of my favorite things. So this is my list of favorite things, for gift ideas for the mommy in your life (even if you are that mommy) it’s not as exciting as Oprah’s list, but I would seriously cry if any of these things were to vanish from my life. My list of useful things, fun things, cool things, new things, and some oldies but goodies.

Please note I am not being paid for any of these suggestions.

Swiffer Sweeper Vac

I know, I know. A vacuum!? But my kitchen has never been as consistently clean as it has been since #mommy’slittlehelper came to live with us.

Cloth Diapers

Calm Down, this is not a cloth vs disposable issue here. I diapered my kids in disposables-for the record- but these things are awesome for, well everything else including that day you realize you only dreamed you went to the store to get more diapers. (burp cloths, spills, nursing leakage, diaper leakage, no paper in public changing station dispenser, dust cloths… dude, anything) You can bleach them, you can pitch them when they get wear holes, you buy them by the dozen, cheaply.

Yoga Capris

You heard me, I’m so short yoga pants make me trip & fall & well, if I’m still in yoga anything I already have sleepiness aiding my natural talent of falling down (I’ve made an Olympic sport of injuring myself) and the last thing I need is to add 4 extra inches of pants dragging the ground.

You can get anything out of anything with this stuff & I’ve never heard of an allergic reaction/recall/etc. Need I say more?

A decent digital camera

This is a stock photo of mine, & since Kodak is going out of thecamera making business maybe it’s a good buy? Either way, mine has lasted 5 years now & I still have no intention of upgrading. Get one that can take a short video, uses an easily replaceable memory card (I recommend 8 so that it holds a vacation, but you have to empty it aka organize it before your newborn goes to Kindergarten) and has lots of simply described light settings (mine has a children @ beach setting & an up close/flower setting amongst others).

 Baby Wipes by the Case

So long after you stop using them for their intended purpose they are still great to keep around. They remove make-up, clean sticky hands in the car, & my favorite? Young people (boys) who aren’t awesome at wiping with the dry stuff.

My Samsung Galaxy Prevail

I love this phone so much I tried to change my relationship status on facebook, but apparently you can’t be “in a relationship” with your phone. #haters It’s everything I have ever wanted in a phone and yet even I can operate it.

Dryel Dry Cleaning Bags

These awesome things do exactly what they say they’ll do, which is refreshing. I have never had time/money to take work clothes to the dry cleaners & ever since I got this baby for Christmas one year I haven’t had to.

A Refillable Day Planner

The picture is actually the same one I use but the stock photo was purple, mine is green. The trick is it has to be big enough to hold, well, everything yet small enough to fit in a purse. I would literally just wonder around in nervous circles if I lost mine. So, fancy phone, why the paper planner? That’s where I keep addresses, anniversaries, birthdays, school calendars, appointments, work schedules, library cards & due dates, insurance cards & paper prescriptions, photocopies of everyone’s regular prescriptions… you get the idea, when the computer crashes (has happened) or the phone just dies (also has happened) day planner muddles on through. Each year I buy new calendar to write on, but everything else is already all nice & there.

These are my favorite mommy must haves. What are yours?
